Blogger Went Down and Ate My Posts

Hello dear Food Blogga readers,

Thank you to all of you who have emailed me to say that my last post, a cookbook review and give-away for The Lazy Gourmet, has disappeared.

Last week, my domain host, Blogger, had a serious glitch and went down. It took my last two posts as well as four more I had written and saved. Ugh.

Since many of you had left comments for a chance to win a copy of The Lazy Gourmet, please leave one again today, and I'll announce a winner on Wednesday. Thank you so much for your understanding and patience.

Below you'll find the recipe for Caramelized Fennel I posted from the book. The gals say that "one of the most powerful weapons in the Lazy Gourmets arsenal is fennel." I couldn't agree more.

Best,
Susan

caramelized fennel

Caramelized Fennel
Serves 2 to 4

2 medium fennel bulbs, leafy tops trimmed and discarded (or saved for another use)
3 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 ounce (about 1/3 cup) grated Parmesan cheese

1. Have fennel bulbs, remove core, and thinly slice. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When oil is hot but not smoking  add fennel and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and beginning to brown about 30 minutes. Sprinkle with salt, stir in vinegar, and remove from heat. Serve topped with grated Parmesan.

The title of the book itself sounds perfectly fit for me. As far as food goes, I am a bit lazy and usually end up using the same recipes over and over (from the box!). This book could only help.

Throw my name in the hat, please, and maybe I should check and see what Blogger did to my posts. I haven't dared look yet!

Hey Susan,it's really sad! Many of my friends have been affected by it. I wonder, will it ever come back?

Would love to participate in the giveaway!

Great seeing you this weekend... And eating a ton of avocados with you.

The same thing happened to my posts on blogger, including a guest blog I had written for another blog. However, I posted that they were missing on a blogger help forum and they reappeared the next morning.

Hope you get them back!

ugh, wasn't it so frustrating! Thankfully, all I lost was my comments from my last post, but I feel so terribly for everyone else! I would love a copy of the cookbook!

The blogger melt down was such a pain.

Can I recommend you look at LiveWriter, the free tool I use to write my blog posts now.

It can pick up your template from your blog so all posts are always formatted correctly for your blog and gives a much easier interface for writing posts, especially if you use a lot of images as I do - I hate inserting them via blogger, 5 at a time, but having to browse the link to each one. LW lets me insert them in one go, with a normal Windows interface selection dialog box. All the normal options such as adding tags and specifying post date are there too.

Then you can just publish to the blog when ready, either in draft form or ready to go live on the specified date.

If anything is lost or mangled by blogger, you can simply upload again from LW.

Although it means I do all my writing on my one home PC, it has made life so much easier.

PS I'm not affiliated in ANY way with LW, but I was pulling my hair out a LOT with blogger until a fellow blogger friend recommended it last year and I would not go back!

PS Can I enter your competition as well? x

Ugh! Blogger! I would love a copy of the "Lazy Gourmet" book ... I have much I could potentially learn from it. :)

Love your blog! The cookbook sounds great, I'd love the chance to win one!

Being lazy myself, I so rarely have posts written ahead of time...now I have an even better excuse to refrain! Maybe yours will come back - I had a post disappear for two days and then reappear. It is a terrible feeling to lose work!

That must have been a major bummer! I would probably cry if that happened to me. It might be a good idea to start writing in Word and saving, just in case.
I would love to win the book - my oldest daughter is quite an gourmet, but she is on the lazy side (getting better every day though).
I hope your week is a wonderful one!

I know - blogger needs to get it together!!! I was annoyed too! And ironically my word verification to post a comment here is "chill". I WILL NOT CHILL, BLOGGER! grrr.

Lazy Gourmet - what a great name for a cookbook. Probably describes me the older I get. LOL
Sounds like a delicious read and I would love to have a copy.

Blogger can be frustrating. For some reason I posted early in the week last week and missed all of the problems. Other than the fact that a lot of comments I left on other blogs were lost.

Sigh, blogger ate 3 posts I had been working on and then ate one on Sunday even after I saved it. They haven't worked out all the glitches still but I'm happy we are all moving forward:D

Hi Susan,

My last post was deleted as well, but then Blogger reposted it the next day. I read that they are restoring all lost posts, so I hope yours will show up very soon!

I like the title. I like gourmet-type food but don't really have time to cook it myself. Maybe with some help from this cookbook, I would.

Hello! I'd love to win a copy of this wonderful-sounding cookbook...! I was almost too lazy to post a comment, but decided it was worth the effort. LOL. ;-)

The Lazy Gourmet would be a great
help in living up to my family's expectations and giving me more time in the kitchen...

I was lucky and only had one post in the hopper when blogger did its thing. I usually write my blog in MS Word then copy it in, so I just had to re-add the photos and all was good. I am going to check out LiveWriter and see if that would work for me. I am so not a techno person so this blogging thing is really teaching me a lot about all this stuff. Hope I win the book to add to my collection. Cheers!

Thank you all so much for partaking in the give-away (again) and for all of your kind comments. You really made me feel better. I still haven't gotten back any of my posts, so I'm rewriting them from memory. Oh, well. It could be worse, right?

The randomly selected winner of The Lazy Gourmet cookbook is Lana of Bibberche. Congratulations, Lana! Please send me your name and mailing address.

Cheers!
