If you've had a Tim Tam, then you can just skip this review, print out your $1 off coupon, and head to Target. (Don't forget to get some cold milk while you're there.) If you haven't had a Tim Tam, then read on.
What is a Tim Tam? It's two chocolate malted biscuits that are held together by a fluffy chocolate cream filling and coated in a thin layer of smooth chocolate. The Aussies can't get enough of them. In fact according to Arnott's, the maker of Tim Tams, Aussies eat over 400 million Tim Tams per year, or nearly two boxes per person!

The Tim Tams here in The States are from Pepperidge Farm. I have sampled both chocolate creme and caramel and prefer the chocolate. I found the caramel too saccharine; though when I crushed them on some vanilla bean ice cream and tossed in some salted peanuts, I liked them much better. The chocolate Tim Tams are delicious. The contrasting textures of crisp malted biscuits, soft cream filling, and silky chocolate are oh-so-satisfying. They have just the right amount of sweetness and are exceptionally good when paired with a tall glass of cold milk or a hot mug of coffee.
Now for the best part: One lucky Food Blogga winner will receive a free package of chocolate creme Tim Tams! Here's what you have to do to win:
Just tell me what you like about Tim Tams, or why you'd like to try them for the first time. Please respond by the end of the day, Saturday, February 28, 2009. That's it.
With the help of random.org, 1 winner will be randomly selected and announced in a future post, so please check back. Since I'll be mailing the cookies, this give-away is open to all Food Blogga readers wherever you live. The winner will need to provide her or his real name and mailing address. Don't have a blog? Just leave an active email address where you can be reached. Good luck, everybody!

I've never had a Tim Tam, but chocolate cookies, chocolate cream, and chocolate glaze? What's not to like? Sounds like a little bite of heaven. You can't go wrong with chocolate three ways.
They look delicious!! I've never had them either!
Who doesn't love trying snacks from other countries? I'm up for trying anything new..especially if that anything includes multiple layers of chocolate..
I've never had them before but I adore trying cookies from foreign countries. Especially when they're covered in chocolate.
Never had them, who would say no to something covered in choclate
I've never had them before, but they look (and sound) really good!
I feel like a lot of people have been mentioning these lately, and I would love to try one. No Target here in nyc!

I have been reading about these cookies coming to America. The Blog World bees keep buzzing about them. I would love to know why!
I've heard lots of friends crune over them... and always been curious...
I'd love to try them...Today I found an empty packet at work. Unfortunately, I was too late, so I got none ;-P!
Cheers,
Rosa
I've never even heard of these but my mouth was watering just reading your review. Not to mention the chocolate malted wafer cookie makes my 30 week pregnant belly just swoon for a taste.
This is news to me - but chocolate (and especially a double-dose of it) anything is good enough reason to try! Yum!
TimTams in the USA... Hooray!!
Now its time to arrange some Tim Tam Slams
Thanks for the heads up :)
I would love to try Tim Tams for the first time because I have given up sweets for Lent, and these sound like the perfect way to celebrate the breaking of my fast on Easter.
I'd like to try them because they're chocolate! I've never even heard of these before, but they sound great.
I've never heard of Tim Tam's, but they sound delish! Would love to try the chocolate ones.
I've never had a Tim Tam, but I 'm always more than willing to eat something chocolate!
Since the Aussies like Vegemite, I'm a little suspicious but they look far too tempting to not give them a chance.
I am seeing 3 layers of chocolate!
chocolate coating
chocolate filling
and a chocolate cookie! That is why I want to try them! YUM! Where are they hiding these little GEMS??
Thank you for sharing!!!

I have some online Aussie friends who've been raving about Tim Tams for years, so I'd love to try them to see what all the fuss is about!
i'd love to try these! i've heard they're amazing, and who can turn down a chocolate cookie?! they sound great.
I've never heard of Tim Tims before but they look devine!

I would like to try them because they look like a delicious cookie stacked on top of another delicious cookie!!
The chocolate Tim Tams are awesome. Especially if you use them as a straw for your milk.
never had a tim tam!! but i never met a chocolate i didn't like :)
I'm in.
(But if I don't win, I'm totally going to Target.)
(Oh! I was in San Diego last week, and I had my first blood orange at the breakfast buffet at Homewood Suites, of all places. It made me think of you.)
I've never had them; our Australian cousins sent samples of other things but not this. But what's not to like?
Tim Tams! Oh glorious deliciousness in form of a classy biscuit. Not to be mistaken for the British Penguin, this cloudy cake is perfect for tea time after a long, hard run. Mmmmhhhhhh!
I've never had a Tim Tam...but I have been to Target when I've visited the States. Not only are we Girl Scout cookie deprived but Tim Tam deprived here in Canada:D
An Aussie woman we know brought a box to work when she returned from a trip home. She broke off NIBBLES for people in the office to try, but no one could have a full cookie. She wanted them to herself! :) This must mean they're good. So we need a box. The end!
I've been reading about these things for a month and I'm DYING to try them. But... my new local Target store doesn't open until 3/8. Maybe they'll still have them on grand opening day? :)
i have never had (nor heard of) tim tams but they look really great! i love that they are all chocolate... it's hard to find a sandwich cookie snack thats chocolate flavored all the way through!
I've never tried them, but 400 million Tim Tams eaten in a year by Australians is a pretty convincing statistic!

I keep reading about how awesome Tim Tams are, but I've never had one! I'd love to try.
Does drooling while reading your description of them count? I say YES! Would love to try them as they sound yummilicious!
The Tim Tams aren't at my Target! I've been scouring the shelves religiously since I first heard the news, but they are not to be found! It is time to start branching out to other Targets, I think...
Tim Tams.... I am so excited! I have never tried them- I will definitely be heading to my local Target to get a box (or maybe 2 !!!)
Erin S.
I have never had a Tim Tam but they sure sound and look delicious. I will have to look for them when I go to Target. I would love to try them!
Thank you!

Well, I love their name but have never tried them! And as a professional sweets sleuth, I think this must change. Oh, pick me! ;-)
Oh I hope I'm the winner! Free chocolate would make my day! tdsmothers@triad.rr.com
Oh, I wish we had these here in Brazil, Susan! They look so good!
I've tried the Arnott cookies but didn't know if it was a true TimTam or not. They are delicious! Love to check out the Pepperidge Farm brand.
OH my oh my oh !!! chocolate and free... that has got to be a good deal. Never heard of them, but am willing to try !! kmcgraw25@sbcglobal.net
I first heard of them as a mix in for ice cream, and being the ice cream fiend I am, that's the thought that has stuck in my head even though I've never had them yet.
I've never had a Tim Tam before, but I've been having a terrible time lately with needing to retire on disability and my agency firing me. Something chocolate might help cheer me up.

TIM TAMS!!! My company had a big client in Australia and a few of my coworkers traveled there in the past year, and I always made a point to find out who was going when so I could bug them to bring back Tim Tams! I am pretty sure that despite being in the US, I went over the 2-box-average myself. But now we're not working with that company anymore, and I don't have access to a Target, so I'm completely cut off from the best cookies ever! Help!
I've never tried them but I love Pepperidge Farm!
Cookies, covered in chocolate, AND filled with chocolate...What's not to LOVE? And Pepperidge Farms makes amazing cookies. It's one of the few brands of packaged cookies I'll buy.
Tim Tam, I love to try it as it looks so crunchy and delicious with 3 layers.
Welp, it's Friday night and I could use a good snackeroo. I think these would foot the bill quite well.
~thanks for the heads up...kinda reminds me of something i would eat as a child but is not around anymore. the lucky part....my daughter works at target and i'm going to ask her to pick some up :)
i have never had a tim tam - but why not try a chocolate cookie? :)
Mmmmmm, I LOOOOOVE Tim-Tams. I want to try eating these with something orange flavoured; I have an orange pudding recipe that would go quite well with some sweet Tim-Tams on the side. Or maybe I'll just end up eating them with my morning coffee! Delicious.
I'm definitely going to have to try these! I'm a student studying food culture, so I'm always interested in trying what's popular in other countries.
I'd like to try TimTams just because everybody raves about them. Never had them and sure am curious.
Have heard a lot about these little goodies, so it would be fun to try them. Cold milk sounds like it would go well :)
Looks delicious. I love sandwich type of cookies. From the looks, it is just a regular chocolate sandwich cookie, so I am really curious about the taste to see what really makes it Australian:) Maybe there is some kind of spice used, ingenious to Australia or maybe something else. So, I am really really curious:)
I keep reading about these and keep forgetting to look at Target, drat.
OK--print coupon, look at target, hope to get some free !!!!
thanks
I love these guys! They are the best when you bite off a little off each end and dip it in hot chocolate - using it as a straw.... then let it melt in your mouth.... oh yummmmmm! I learned this native method from a missionary friend that served there. Eeee I hope I win! These are great!
i just adore tim tams. nick and i spent a month in australia for our honeymoon, and i had tim tams quite regularly. australian food - whether it's kangaroo meat, fresh sugar cane, or a tim tam, always brings back memories of our super romantic barrier reef and rain forest vacation - lazy days of diving, hiking and just enjoying the scenery. so, that's why i like tim tams :)
The best thing about Tim Tams is the addictive combination of creamy, crispy, crunchy chocolate. Yumm.
Is it to late? Hopefully not... the kids and the dogs have kept us busy: digind a snow cave, skijoring with the dogs so they get some exercise, ...
Arrgh, you have missed the very most important part: how to eat Tim Tams! Just as there is a "proper" way to eat Oreos (break them apart, lick out the middle, then eat the cookies), there is also a proper way to eat Tim Tams.
Instructions are as follows:
- Hold the cookie upright between your thumb and forefinger.
- Nibble off one of the upper corners by 1/4".
- Then flip the cookie upside down and do the same to the diagonally opposite corner.
- Dip one of the nibbled off corners in tea, coffee, or milk and suck like a straw.
- When you feel your Tim Tam straw starting to get gooey, gobble it up!
Until you have eaten a Tim Tam in the manner above, you have not truly "experienced" a Tim Tam. :)
Oh these are so good. They sell the Arnott's brand at world market and that is where I go to get them for my dad!
Yum. I love chocolate and this sounds like the best of a triple goodness. I would love to try them.
I'm brasilian and my boyfriend lives in AUS. He always tell me about Tim Tam, but I've never had them. I want some one!!!
